Education:

James Cray is the Head Prep Basketball Coach at Notre Dame Prep. He most recently spent the 2025–26 season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where he worked in player development, scouting, and game preparation at the NCAA level.
Before RIT, Cray spent the 2024–25 season as an assistant coach at Vermont Academy, a respected New England prep school known for producing NCAA Division I and professional players. He helped with player development, scouting reports, and game planning while competing in the NEPSAC league.
Cray previously served as the head coach at Rochester Academy during the 2023–24 season, where he focused on building program culture, developing players, and helping athletes prepare for college basketball.
In addition to his school coaching experience, Cray is the Program Director of Team Northeast, an Under Armour Association grassroots program that focuses on skill development, exposure, and discipline for players pursuing college opportunities.
A Rochester, New York native, Cray earned his degree in Sport Management from SUNY Brockport
