the joel stephens memorial park
Joel Stephens, a 1995 graduate of Notre Dame High School, was a standout 3-sport athlete who, during his high school sports career, was an All-American in football and baseball, won the Northeast Regional Gatorade Football Player of the Year and received the prestigious Ernie Davis Award. Joel was an exceptional athlete who displayed a strong commitment and dedication to Notre Dame Athletics. Though Joel was rewarded continuously for his athletic talent, he remained humble and truly believed that he was the same as any other athlete.
At the age of 22, Joel passed away after losing his battle with cancer in 1998. In 2000, Notre Dame High School began to award the Joel Andrew Stephens 5-C Award for Christianity, Courage, Compassion, Character and Commitment to an outstanding student athlete who has been exemplary and has displayed the same characteristics as Joel Stephens.
Through the help of our various Notre Dame supporters, the Joel Stephens Memorial Park was built to honor the memory of Joel. This park serves as a constant reminder of the commitment our students and student athletes have to Notre Dame and the commitment that Notre Dame has to them, long after their departure from the school.
Within the park you will see a number of cobblestone blocks that have been purchased by varying individuals (alumni, parents, faculty/staff, supports, etc.). Blocks may be purchased in memory of someone, in celebration or in support. These blocks are available to purchase for $500 to all those interested. All proceeds from the blocks will benefit Notre Dame High School.
If you are interested in purchasing a block to place in the park please contact Tracy Brunton at email@example.com or by phone at 607-734-2267 ext.325
