Special Announcments

Dear Notre Dame Family:

I just received word that the Elmira City School District will be closing its schools through Spring Break under the advisement of the New York State Department of Health and by order of Chemung County Executive Chris Moss for prevention efforts against COVID-19.  Notre Dame HS, therefore, will follow accordingly, thereby becoming a virtual campus for three weeks beginning this Tuesday, March 17, through Friday, April 3.  Spring Break is still scheduled for April 6 through April 13, with school resuming on Tuesday, April 14.

Teachers have been instructed to begin notifying students via Google Classroom or other means of their upcoming assignments if they have not already done so.   When I addressed the students on Thursday explaining that this may be a possibility, I encouraged them not to treat this time as a vacation.  Rather, this will be good practice for those seeking to go on to college to be self-disciplined in continuing their work and studying as instruction will continue and due dates will be enforced by their teachers just as they have been.   Also, students are expected to uphold the expectations outlined in the Code of Conduct with regards to honesty in completing assignments.

Students needing to check out Chromebooks may email Nick Allington, Director of IT, at allingtonn@notredamehighschool.com.  Also, please email Mr. Allington should you not have sufficient Internet access as we will try to come up with a solution.

The school building itself will remain open, and staff members who are salaried will continue to work.   For now, the school hours will continue to be 8AM-4PM until further notice.   We will also take this opportunity to have the school thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.  All school-sponsored events have been placed on hold until further notice.

I realize this email alone will not answer all of the questions I am sure you have, but I wanted to get this out to you immediately.  While I knew this was certainly a possibility, I was not given any official word until today.  More emails no doubt will be forthcoming; please feel free to email me your questions.

Joe Palladino will be sending out a separate email once we receive additional information concerning athletics.  He may be reached at palladinoj@notredamehighschool.com.

Happy St. Patrick's Day.  Happy Easter and everything in between.
