Notre Dame High School offers comprehensive guidance services for our students from individual pre-high school informational meetings to college counseling. Mrs. Morrell works with the students, bringing valuable insight and experience to the college counseling process and guiding these students through their transition through high school.
Students have easy access to their guidance counselor here at ND - no appointments necessary! Counselors are happy to help students deal with schedule concerns, personal problems, relationship issues with peers or any crisis they are experiencing.
The Guidance Department offers annual workshops for parents on College Financial Aid and the College Search Process. The counselors meet monthly with their students in small group guidance sessions that deal with topics pertinent to each class: freshmen discuss adjustment issues, sophomores explore careers and juniors deal with the various aspects of the college search process. Seniors are meeting individually with their counselor regarding their actual applications.
Standardized tests are given to all students in grades 9, 10 and 11 each year. Freshmen take a STS test that is similar to the Placement test used with the entering eighth graders. Sophomores take the PLAN test which prepares them for the ACT college entrance exam and also has an Interest Inventory component. Juniors all take the PSAT which will provide them with good information about preparing for the SATs and enter them into the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test competition.
Our counselors are always happy to answer any questions or concerns that parents may have concerning their students.
